These papers include correspondence between the Poizat and Vérone branches of the family concerning descent, titles, and efforts to obtain recognition; Poizat family manuscripts, including lists of slaves in Santo Domingo, and baptismal certificates; Scaliger family manuscripts, genealogies, coats of arms, titles of fiefs (1402-1546), military commissions, royal proclamations, and wills of Julius Caesar Scaliger and his son Joseph Justus Scaliger. Also included are documents concerning the effort of Joseph de Lescale de Vérone to obtain official recognition of his claims, and documents relating to other members of the Scaliger family and the question of descent from the Della Scalas of Verona.
